Preparation Time
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
- Chill Time: 30 minutes
- Total Time: 50 minutes
- Servings: 16 protein balls
Ingredients
For the Protein Balls
- 1 cup rolled oats (certified gluten-free)
- ½ cup vanilla or chocolate protein powder
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup roasted hazelnuts, finely chopped
- ¼ cup natural hazelnut butter or almond butter
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons milk of choice
- Pinch of sea salt
For the Coating
- ½ cup roasted hazelnuts, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dry Ingredients
Add the rolled oats, protein powder, cocoa powder, and sea salt to a large mixing bowl. Stir until the ingredients are evenly combined.
Step 2: Add the Wet Ingredients
Mix in the hazelnut butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of milk. Stir well until the mixture begins to come together. If it seems dry, add the remaining milk one teaspoon at a time until the dough is soft and easy to shape.
Step 3: Fold in the Hazelnuts
Add the finely chopped roasted hazelnuts and mix until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough. The mixture should hold together when pressed between your fingers.
Step 4: Chill the Mixture
Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes. Chilling makes the mixture firmer and much easier to roll.
Step 5: Shape the Protein Balls
Using a tablespoon or small cookie scoop, portion the mixture into equal amounts. Roll each portion between your palms to form smooth balls.
Step 6: Coat the Balls
Roll each ball in the chopped roasted hazelnuts until completely coated. For an extra chocolate flavor, lightly dust them with cocoa powder after coating.
Step 7: Chill Again
Place the finished protein balls on a parchment-lined tray and refrigerate for another 15–20 minutes to firm up.
Step 8: Serve and Enjoy
Enjoy straight from the refrigerator as a healthy snack, post-workout bite, or guilt-free dessert.
